The Commercial Lines State Product Manager will be a proactive, driven and individually accountable steward of profit and growth across assigned states & territories for all commercial lines and farm products. Designer of long term state strategies and coordinator of short term execution to realize benefits of such.  Focus on driving improvements in profit/growth through pricing management (segmentation texture and rate level), as well ongoing engagement, partnership and influence with underwriting, sales, regulatory, product development, marketing, operations & finance to align and add value to their strategy & execution. 

 

This position will report to our Director of Commercial Lines Product Management and will work remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Independently identify, prioritize, and drive organizational focus on profit/growth opportunities
  • Build relationships and add value across core stakeholder departments (UW, Sales, Actuarial, IT, etc.)
  • Be the go-to expert of commercial lines/farm products, strategy, markets, business levers, data and execution
  • Effectively leverage data, analytics and available supporting resources
  • Oversee and maximize value of state rate filings at all stages
  • Point person for responses and action plans regarding regulatory matters
  • Independently create and oversee creation by staff of influential presentations associated with day to day executional opportunities as well as broad strategic opportunities
  • Fully leverage, motivate and develop analyst staff

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Management of one or more pricing/state analysts

 

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Very strong analytic & project management capabilities
  • Expert knowledge of P&C insurance products & filing process with emphasis on commercial lines
  • Knowledge of predictive/pricing modeling methodology, and actuarial principles
  • Knowledge of Underwriting principles, methodology and general theory
  • Expert use of PowerPoint & Excel
  • Knowledge of SQL, SAS, VBA, and other programming/data management strong plus
  • Translate analysis into coherent presentations & communication

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Actuarial, Business Admin, Mathematics or related analytic disciplines
  • 5+ years of P&C experience in commercial lines/farm product management (strong preference), actuarial or sales/underwriting, but experience in portfolio managed products, such as Personal Lines, would also be entertained
  • Expert knowledge of insurance, actuarial principles, modeling, computer science & data manipulation
  • Experience managing direct reports and multiple stakeholder departments outside of direct reporting relationship is a strong preference
  • Experience with modeling and predictive analytic
  • All the following would be consider preferred and viewed favorably:
    • Graduate degree and/or related professional designations (Underwriting, Actuarial, Finance)
    • Experience with managing products and interacting with regulatory environments in the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona
    • Experience working with an independent agency channel distribution

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work at a desk or office for a prolonged period of time
