The Computer Operator II reports to the Director of Enterprise Infrastructure and Services and is responsible for running all jobs on the mainframe and/or midrange systems that support the company.  They will also assist the Operations Team in keeping job schedules up to date.

 

 

Location: The successful candidate will work remotely, must be able to work during our core Pacific Standard Time (PST) business hours, and must have high-speed internet (internet speed test required). Full-time or part-time hours are available.

Hiring Range: $28.24 - $32.43*

Salary Range: $28.24 - $37.73

Responsibilities

 Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Execute daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual job cycles.
  • Adhere to Computer Operations department procedures; and ensure accuracy of information maintained in job schedules, incident, and problem tickets.
  • Adhere to IT department procedures, team methodologies, and project management procedures.
  • Continuously monitor the operation of the consoles, and storage devices.
  • Monitor reports to/from our Print Vendor Exela.
  • Demonstrate mastery of effective maintenance practices for orderly and accessible records, and perform filing/purging tasks according to RIM policies.
  • Be able to regenerate or locate reports.
  • As directed, perform special assignments and assist with special projects as requested by the Director of Enterprise Infrastructure and Services /IT Management, and provide general technical support.
  • Help with the development of production procedures for new and existing technologies.
  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of security standards. 
  • Assist with the formation, execution, and maintenance of compliance controls.
  • Maintain Production Control Metrics.
  • Facilitate the resolution and follow-up on problems in the Production environment, coordinating with the relevant areas within IT (TRC, Systems Admin, Development, etc).
  • Review batch cycle jobs for successful completion.
  • Define problems detected and work to resolve problems within the relevant area(s) of IT.
  • Forward problems to programming and technical staff as appropriate.  Ensure problems are documented properly in both the current ticketing system and job documentation.
  • Administer Production Change Control via the current Change Management systems.  Move all approved JCL and program changes from the test environment to Production. Audit the Change request for accuracy.  Audit new job documentation for accuracy (and existence).
  • Audit new change promotions for accuracy. 
  • Maintain production batch cycle schedules and report distribution, ensuring they are complete and accurate before processing begins.

 

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience with disaster recovery systems (or equivalent academic preparation) required.
  • Demonstrated ability to run several applications at one time.
  • Knowledge of Production zSeries Control and Systems Administration methodologies and techniques.
  • Knowledge in the following will be preferred.
  • Intermediate- to advanced-level proficiency and experience with personal computer software, IBM compatible hardware, Windows Office Suite, Outlook, and Software troubleshooting. 
  • Advanced working familiarity with data center operations and procedures.
  • Intermediate-level experience providing user support.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow verbal/written instructions and direction from IT management, Team Leads, and senior staff members.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in following IT standards, practices, and established Dept. procedures.
  • Implement and support Company and organizational goals.
  • Manage one's own time. Prioritize and meet multiple deadlines and can handle a variety of tasks and associated pressure.
  • Coordinate and work productively with team members in varied disciplines/Company departments.
  • Foster respect and trust based on communications, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills with Company customers, employees, and members of the business community.
  • Exhibit mature judgment and respect for policies, guidelines, and standards.
  • Exhibit creativity, and flexibility to respond to shifting workload requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to schedule and attendance requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to cooperate, coordinate and synchronize work efforts with other team members to accomplish smooth and efficient operations.
  • Ability to work after-hour, on-call, and on weekends as necessary.
  • Provide deep technical support and administrative functions

Education and Experience:

  • Associate or technical degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience operating mainframe (zSeries) and/or midrange (iSeries) operating systems and hardware.
  • Advanced zSeries administration of operating systems and architecture is a plus.
  • Preference will be given to experience in the Financial Industry (specifically: Insurance or Banking).
  • A+ certification preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, including video conferencing.
  • May require lifting of up to 10 pounds.
