The Enterprise Architect reports to the Chief Information Officer and provides strategic technical leadership to align enterprise architecture, application portfolios, and technology standards with business objectives. This role drives cloud modernization, AI-enabled innovation, and scalable solution design across the organization. The Enterprise Architect partners with business and IT leaders to deliver secure, resilient, and cost-effective technology solutions supporting underwriting, claims, policy administration, and customer engagement.

 

Location: Preference will be given to candidates able to work in a hybrid capacity between our Home Office in Enumclaw, WA, and remotely. Fully remote candidates will be required to travel to the Home Office 25% of the time.

 

Hiring Range: $179,900 - $199,200*

Salary Range: $179,900 - $218,400

Responsibilities

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • May provide leadership and mentorship to architecture team members, solution architects, and technical leads across the enterprise.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain enterprise architecture vision, roadmap, and principles aligned with business strategy.
  • Establish and govern architecture standards, patterns, frameworks, and reference architectures.
  • Lead architecture governance processes to ensure alignment with enterprise standards, cloud-first practices, and deployment automation.
  • Define cloud adoption strategy and design hybrid/multi-cloud architectures that optimize cost, performance, security, and compliance.
  • Establish cloud-native standards, including microservices, containers, serverless, and event-driven architecture.
  • Drive application modernization efforts, including legacy system assessment and transformation roadmaps.
  • Define AI/ML strategy and architect platforms and pipelines for model development, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Implement responsible AI governance, including validation, bias detection, explainability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead application portfolio rationalization to reduce complexity and improve efficiency.
  • Establish API-first integration strategies and governance to enable secure, reliable system connectivity.
  • Define observability standards (logging, monitoring, tracing, alerting) to support operational excellence.
  • Embed security-by-design principle,s including IAM, zero trust, encryption, and secure pipeline practices.
  • Ensure architectural alignment with applicable insurance regulations and security frameworks.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and vendors; lead proofs of concept to validate value and feasibility.
  • Communicate architectural direction and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Mentor teams on architecture principles, cloud best practices, AI/ML adoption, and delivery enablement.

 

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:  

  • Expertise in enterprise architecture frameworks and modern architecture practices.
  • Strong cloud architecture experience (AWS, Azure, and/or GCP).
  • Proficiency in DevOps, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and deployment automation.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Demonstrated ability to architect and implement AI/ML solutions and MLOps practices.
  • Strong understanding of microservices, APIs, event-driven architecture, and distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of P&C insurance processes and supporting systems (underwriting, claims, policy, billing).
  • Ability to lead modernization initiatives and reduce legacy system complexity.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder influence skills.
  • Proven ability to drive change, establish standards, and build alignment across teams.

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years of IT experience, including 5+ years in enterprise or solution architecture roles (insurance or financial services preferred).
  • 3+ years leading cloud transformation and application modernization initiatives.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting AI/ML architecture, implementation, or strategy.
  • Enterprise architecture certification (TOGAF or Zachman) preferred.
  • Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, or GCP) highly desirable.
  • Additional certifications in Kubernetes, DevOps, AI/ML platforms, or security frameworks are a plus.

Physical Requirements:  

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, including video conferencing.
