Overview

Founded in 1898, Mutual of Enumclaw is a people-first insurer rooted in community, recognized as Washington’s Best Company to Work For for the 14th consecutive year, and proudly serving individuals, families, farms, and businesses through local independent agents across the West.

We're in the middle of one of the most ambitious technology transformations in our company's history: modernizing a full-scale P&C insurance operation for the cloud era, embedding AI across our core business, and rebuilding how we architect, deliver, and operate technology at scale.

This is a seat at the table. As Enterprise Architect, you'll report directly to the CIO and set the architectural direction for the entire organization, from cloud strategy and AI/ML platforms to API governance and application modernization. Your decisions will shape how we underwrite, handle claims, serve customers, and compete in the market for years to come.

If you want a role where your architecture work drives real business outcomes — not just documents that sit on a shelf — this is it.

Responsibilities

Supervisory:

  • May provide leadership and mentorship to architecture team members, solution architects, and technical leads across the enterprise.

Enterprise Architecture Strategy:

  • Define and evolve our enterprise architecture vision, roadmap, and governing principles, ensuring every major technology decision connects back to business strategy.
  • Lead architecture governance to maintain standards, reduce complexity, and accelerate delivery across business units including HR, Finance, Underwriting, Claims, and Customer Engagement.

Cloud & Infrastructure Modernization:

  • Own our cloud adoption strategy across hybrid/multi-cloud environments, optimizing for cost, performance, security, and compliance.
  • Set cloud-native standards — microservices, containers, serverless, event-driven architecture — and lead the migration from legacy systems with clear, prioritized transformation roadmaps.

AI & Data Architecture:

  • Architect the platforms and pipelines that enable our AI/ML capabilities, from model development and deployment to monitoring and MLOps.
  • Build responsible AI governance into the foundation: validation, bias detection, explainability, and regulatory compliance.

Integration & API Strategy:

  • Establish an API-first integration framework that enables secure, reliable connectivity across our application portfolio.
  • Define observability standards — logging, monitoring, tracing, alerting — to underpin operational excellence.
Communicate architectural direction and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Security & Compliance:

  • Embed security-by-design across all architecture work: IAM, zero trust, encryption, and secure pipeline practices.
  • Ensure alignment with applicable insurance regulations and security frameworks.

Technology Leadership:

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and run proofs of concept to validate business value.
  • Mentor solution architects and technical leads across the enterprise.
  • Communicate architectural direction clearly to both technical teams and executive stakeholders.
